With each book I write though, I can feel myself actually getting better at it, even through the edit process which is my least favourite bit, I know what to remove and what to keep in, and this growing and changing I think is entirely connected with the fact that book writing is not an instant medium. What you reading right now? Your favourite books? My favourite books change from month to month, and it would require a much more organised person than me to turn it into an actual list.
I do love Margaret Atwood and Zadie Smith though. Also Judy Blume. Advice for aspiring writers who are trying to complete their first book or story. And write. Write every day. What would you be looking for in this contest?

When it first came out in , You Are Here was a game changer: unexpectedly candid, surprisingly wise, audaciously explicit. Now, ten years and five books later, it has never been out of print, and this anniversary edition is a reminder of how much, and how little, has changed in the life of a single woman in India.

New Indian and Indian American female writers should get over the idea that writing about their sex lives is exciting and makes for wonderful literature. It doesn't. I would think they would do something constructive with that freedom and come up with some quality work. View all 4 comments. Jul 25, Manu rated it it was ok Shelves: review.
I picked it up because it was written by a fellow Indian blogger. And yes, I prefer Indian fiction. But I'm guessing I am not exactly the target audience : Considering the author's profile, I'd say the book is at least faintly autobiographical.
Arshi, the protagonist, is a twenty something, 21st century Indian woman, who lives or at least tries to live life on her own terms, only she doesnt seem to be sure what they are.
A potentially interesting premise of self discovery in an urban Indian mi I picked it up because it was written by a fellow Indian blogger. A potentially interesting premise of self discovery in an urban Indian milieu.
But in that sense it disappoints. Here are a couple of things that put me off. While it could be an attempt at stark portrayal, i felt that a lot of things had a force-fit twang, added to get a "yup, am with it" effect.
Also, the title was very ironical in the sense that the story seemed to be going all over the place. A very lifestream flow which didnt work for me because of its predictability.
However if Indian chick lit is your scene, you cannot afford to give this one a miss. And having said all that, I'm still happy that a blogger has become an author.

People who don't read generally ask me my reasons for reading. Simply put I just love reading and so to that end I have made it my motto to just Keep on Reading. I love to read everything except for Self Help books but even those once in a while. I read almost all the genre but YA, Well, you are nowhere this is another of the books which I didn't like too much. I read almost all the genre but YA, Fantasy, Biographies are the most. My favorite series is, of course, Harry Potter but then there are many more books that I just adore.
I have bookcases filled with books which are waiting to be read so can't stay and spend more time in this review, so remember I loved reading this and love reading more, you should also read what you love and then just Keep on Reading. People looking for a refreshingly unusual kind of a story line must read it! There is no character developement. The plot is very weak and so predictable. It really surprised me that Penguin Books decided to publish this novel. Penguin is noted for publishing quality fiction.
This novel is definately not quality fiction. Thanks Aneeshya for coming by. What you said is true, it is disappointing considering the hype. If at all the book is selling, it is due to the popularity of her blog.
Well the book is like any other book whose characters are lost. There is nothing impressive about this book. I wont recommend this book, not even for 1 time read. HemRaj Singh. Hi Padma, I will be very grudging in my advice to you….
